GeoShred VST3 plugin

Prerequisite

Before any of this works you need to download GeoShred Studio from the Mac App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/geoshred-studio/id1592720341?mt=12

This VST3 plugin is actually a wrapper around the GeoShred Studio AUv3 plugin, that is why you need to download GeoShred Studio first.

You must use GeoShred Studio version 7000.97.1 (197) or later

Download the VST3

Download GeoShred.vst3.zip

Installation

  1. Unzip GeoShred.vst3.zip.
  2. Copy GeoShred.vst3 to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ if you want it available for all users, or to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ for just the current user.
  3. Launch your VST3 host (e.g., Reaper or Cubase).
  4. Add a new track and insert the GeoShred VST3 instrument (not the AUv3 GeoShred!).
  5. Record MIDI and parameter automation as you normally would.

Recording MIDI from the Stand‑Alone App

You can run the stand‑alone /Applications/GeoShred.app and route its MIDI output to your DAW via the macOS IAC Driver. Follow the steps below to enable it.

Setting up the IAC Driver

  1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities).
  2. Choose Window ▸ Show MIDI Studio.
  3. Double‑click the IAC Driver icon.
  4. Tick Device is online and click Apply.
  5. (Optional) Click the + button under Ports to create extra virtual buses, and rename them to keep your routing clear (e.g., “GeoShred Out”).
  6. In the sending app (GeoShred) select the desired IAC port as its MIDI Out; in the receiving app (your DAW) select the same IAC port as its MIDI In.
  7. Avoid feedback loops by not selecting the same IAC port for both input and output within a single app.

Tip: If you hear stuck notes, send an “All Notes Off” message (CC 123) on all channels or hit the DAW’s MIDI‑panic button.
